Duratron Sac-Nut Modules Prevent Corrosion

Duratron Sacrificial modules stop costly corrosion of buried valves, fittings and mechanical joints on water, gas and oil systems. Sac-Nut modules are made from special high grade zinc, fusion-bonded to an inner steel core to provide solid contact with the fitting.

Sac-Nut Advantages

bullet

Can be used as a primary nut or a follower nut • Unique design guarantees corrosion protection and structural integrity in aggressive soils for approximately 40 years

bullet

Steel core allows zinc nuts to be tightened to high torque specifications

bullet

Designed for and applicable to MJ fittings, flanges and other bolted applications

bullet

Easy to install with a standard socket or pipe wrench - no special equipment needed

How It Works

In typical soil, the zinc module portion of the Sac-Nut galvanically releases electrons, making the iron parts negatively charged. This forms a protective layer of positive ions. The resulting ionic shield or cathodic protection neutralizes the damaging corrosive action of aggressive environments. The release of electrons by pure zinc is inherently a self-regulating process providing just the right amount of current to protect the fitting over a wide range of soils.

Life Expectancy

When twelve nut modules are installed on a typical 6 inch valve assembly (with less than 30 square inches of exposed metal in 1000 ohm-cm aggressive soils) effective corrosion protection* will be maintained for approximately 40 years. Quality coatings or paints can be applied to steel and iron surfaces minimizing the area of exposed metal to the soil. This in turn reduces the amount of current required for protection and further extends the effective lifespan of Sac-Nut modules.

Sac-Nut Specifications

Duratron Sacrificial Nut modules are made from a special high-grade zinc (99.99% pure), conforming to ASTM Standard B-418, Type II. Only this specification is suitable for soil or water. Each module has a

fusion-bonded inner steel core to provide solid contact between bolts and fittings thus allowing high-torquing of the nut.

Using Sac-Nut Modules

Sac-Nuts are ideally suited for metallic fittings on PVC pipe systems and other bolted applications. To ensure quality and purity, always specify Duratron anode products.
