| Sound insulation
for Industrial, Architectural and Marine applications |
|
 | Noise barrier, is the answer to
many problems in acoustical control and noise pollution. Economical,
efficient and highly flexible, it is a proven sound insulating material. |
 | more that any other material,
effectively fulfils the engineering and design requirements for a first
class sound barrier. It not only has the high density required, but also
the natural limpness, good damping capacity and impermeability. |
 | is free from oil and dirt.. and
is easily laminated to other materials with a rubber-based contact
adhesive. It can be stapled or held in place by battens. Sheald is
quickly and easily molded to conform to any shape. Readily cut with
scissors or a knife, Sheald can be installed by plant maintenance,
construction or other personnel. |
 | effectiveness is dramatically
demonstrated by the fact that a 2" - 22 ga. steel partition laminated with
a sheet of Sheald 1/64" thick, stops sound more effectively than a
good 6" concrete wall. |
 | natural limpness greatly aids
its sound insulating qualities and its ease of application. Acoustical
barriers containing Sheald have a greater sound transmission loss
than other barriers of equal weight. This quality of Sheald
accounts for its popularity in the construction and renovation of
high-rise buildings and apartments. The ease of installation, coupled
with the light weight and thinness of Sheald simplifies building
erection, increases valuable rental space and makes it available for
rental sooner. |
 | has been laminated on a
continuous coil basis to sheet steel and aluminum using adhesives
specifically designed for the purpose. This product combines the sound
barrier qualities and high corrosion resistance of Sheald with the
strength and fabricating ability of the other materials. The laminate
gives a new dimension to design versatility, and can be produced in
various weights and gauges of Sheald and other metals. |
|
 |
| Portable Office
Accommodations |
|
 | Sheald can convert
unused office space within a noisy factory into valuable portable office
accommodation. Sound rated doors, partitions and ceilings employing
Sheald can increase efficiency and save money by bringing
administration closer to operations...eliminating the need for outside
office space. |
|
 |
| Machinery |
|
 | Machinery, (high speed
compressors, pumps, generators, etc.) a serious source of industrial
noise, can be made quieter with Sheald. Sheald's thin profile
allows it to be readily incorporated in the design and construction of
sound rated equipment. From a practical standpoint, the reduction of noise
from existing machinery usually requires some type of enclosure or shroud.
Sheald, as the lining of a machine enclosure, is an excellent sound
barrier. It can be easily laminated to conventional materials such as
wood, plastics or steel. Even metal rods or bars which rattle around
inside the spindles of screw machines can be made quieter by simply
wrapping 2 lb./ft² Sheald around the exterior of the bar holders. |
|
 |
| New Structures |
|
 | The combination of Sheald
with steel or aluminum results in a "quiet material" with excellent
vibration damping qualities. Any new structure such as private homes,
schools, office and institutional buildings are potential applications for
thin, factory-fabricated walls and panel. Pumping stations and other
high-noise sources are also prime areas for the use of sound barrier
construction. Sound-rated, pre-painted modular sheet-steel wall or roof
panels, interior or exterior, offer manufacturers of pre-engineered steel
buildings an opportunity to broaden their markets. |
 | The use of Sheald as a
sound retardant in mobile homes will eliminate the resonance factor that
can make trailer living uncomfortable. Easily laminated to the inside of
the structure, Sheald is the ideal product for both the renovation
of existing mobile homes and the construction of new models. |
|
 |
| Modern Buildings |
|
 | In modern buildings, a problem
of major concern is the isolation of noise generated in mechanical rooms
located adjacent to prime rental areas. The problem of unwanted noise is
often compounded by structural vibration, and cannot always be completely
solved by the proper vibration isolation of the machinery alone.
Similarly, buildings near aircraft operations are plagued by jet roar
interrupting phone calls, meetings and general daily routine. High
transmission loss (HTL) ceilings containing Sheald have been used
with great success during the past six years o solve problems in many
major high-rise and institutional type buildings. |
|
 |
| Transportation |
|
 | Noise associated with most
forms of transportation can be curbed with Sheald. The clickety-clack
of a railroad car can be the loudest sound in the world to a weary
traveler intent on sleeping. A Sheald floor lining can make that
noise a thing of the past. Camper trailers or buses can be made more
comfortable for living and traveling by isolation of the engine and
auxiliary power equipment or by treating the whole floor. |
|
 |
| Vehicles |
|
 | In commercial vehicles, the use of
Sheald/steel laminates in firewalls, trunk walls and floor pans
provides optimum noise control and unexcelled corrosion resistance.
Vehicles such as trucks, snowmobiles, tractors, construction and forestry
equipment can be made quieter with Sheald. |
|
 |
| Marine
Applications |
|
 | In boats, Sheald can
effectively isolate the disturbing roar of inboards or the tedious drone
of power auxiliaries to assure pleasant cruising or working conditions.
Impervious to moisture, non-flammable, non-magnetic and non-corrosive,
Sheald is the perfect marine product. Sheald is also an
excellent radio frequency barrier and isolates ignition interference. It
is easily applied to engine compartments, bulkheads and decking. |
|
 |
| Office Privacy |
|
 | Sheald bonds easily to
gypsum, plywood or any other common building material. Examination rooms,
interview cubicles and executive offices using partitions laminated with
Sheald assure the privacy important to doctors (and their
patients), personnel managers and businessmen. Sheald will also
keep out exterior noise. |
 | In education institutions,
Sheald is particularly useful in language laboratories, offices or
classrooms that could be disturbed by noisy areas such as music rooms or
gymnasiums. Student counselors offices, where privacy is a prime
consideration, benefit from Sheald lining. |
|
 |
| Linings and
Coverings |
|
 | Manufacturers of
air-conditioning, heating equipment, power units and pumps can now
effectively reduce the noise level of their product by the use of a
Sheald lining or cover. |
 | In offices, Sheald is
particularly effective in containing the noise produced by older dot
matrix computer
printers, teletypes and other common noise makers. |
|
 |
| Miscellaneous
Applications: |
|
X-Ray
Barriers
 | Sheald meets all the
specifications for X-ray protection. Most specifications detail minimum
thickness of lead required and consultation with X-rays specialists should
be made regarding the weight of Sheald needed for the application. |
Moisture Barriers
 | Sheald is a perfect
waterproof membrane for the lining of decorative pools, planters and ducts
for non-potable water. |
 | Sheald laminated to
various backings such as a fiberglass scrim plastic and asphalt
impregnated Kraft paper, offers architects and builders quality flashing
material providing a lifetime of moisture control. |
Corrosion
Resistance
 | Sheald's excellent
anti-corrosive qualities make it an ideal material for many applications
in laboratories and industrial plants where corrosion is a problem. |
Miscellaneous
 | Sheald is an ideal
product for non-skid, anti-static matting. Impervious to moisture and
grease, Sheald offers long life protection when used in factories,
garages, aircraft maintenance hangers and similar buildings. |
 | In hi-fi equipment the addition
of Sheald to speaker enclosures eliminates unwanted cabinet
resonance and improves the tonal quality. |
 | Sheald also offers
opportunities for "do-it-yourself" jobs fro sound-proofing playrooms and
bathrooms to the lining of gutters and other anti-corrosion applications. |
