These materials can include things like X-ray tubes or radioisotopic electronic devices. These materials must be stored correctly to ensure the safety of all hospital staff and patients.

Most commonly, lead lining that is less than 5/8 inches in thickness is used in lead sheets that get layered onto each other. Linings that are more than 5/8 inches in thickness are usually poured into the walls of the cabinets during construction. Either method is effective in providing a barrier to radioactive isotopes inside the cabinet.

Cabinets and indoor hospital structures can benefit from lead welding to provide easy access to the interior of the cabinet while also preventing the escape of radioactivity. The lead can provide a ‘seal’ that prevents leakage of the connecting or structural areas of the cabinet.

Shielded lids and doors can be used to provide extra protection for when the cabinets are opened. These shielded cabinet components are ideal for areas in hospitals that are involved in the disposal of radioactive waste.

Specialized doors and handles can be used to fully secure cabinets that contain a lead filling. These doors can also be used to balance the weight of the lead to ensure the cabinets stays in place. This is a key factor to consider in the production of shielded cabinets.

The overall weight of the cabinet must be taken into consideration. Standard shelving can support around 100 pounds of weight, and the lead filled cabinet can weigh a lot more than this. The door and handle must be able to support this weight.

The dimensions of the cabinets must also be taken into account, including the width, height, depth, and thickness. Cabinets with lead lining are often created for a customers’ specific needs, based on the amount of space available and the amount of storage required. The number of shelves may vary based on a customer’s needs as well.

There is usually the option of adding a countertop made out of lead to complete the cabinets. It provides a spill-proof, protective lid for the cabinet.

To learn more about the lead lining and lead welding services we offer here at Canada Metal, get in touch today.

Also Read : Importance of Lead-lined Doors in the Healthcare Industry

Lead-lined cabinets can be used in various industries, but they are most commonly used in hospitals and nuclear facilities, such as nuclear medicine and nuclear power.
